Inspiration behind ‘What is Love?’ Collection
I think everyone probably has a different definition of what love is to them. It has so much facets to it that it becomes difficult to define in a single sentence.
But here we find what love is,in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV which reads,“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
‘What even is love? What is it? Why is everyone searching for love or running after it? What is true love? Does love really exist? Does anyone really love me? Am I worthy of love? Is love a choice or a feeling?’ We all ask ourselves these questions or at least one of them. When I started working on this collection,I wanted it to be something meaningful which led me to the above verse about love. So I realised that one could be reminded of what love is,if I made it the literal name of what I carry in my purse everyday.
I,myself, might not have the answer you want to these questions on love. But I want to let you know what I do know and what I rely upon. It is this :
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.”
1 John 4:8-12 NIV
If you have not heard of the Gospel of Christ, you sure will be confused on hearing that the God who created the heavens and the earth sent his Son into the world. Why!? You may have so many questions,I know. But that’s just it,its not that we love God but that he loves us so much that he sent his Son to this world,as an atoning sacrifice for our sins, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. That’s what I know of love and that’s the only answer I have. The above verses also tells us that ‘God is love’ and that it doesn’t just stop at him loving us,and us loving him back, but he also commands us to love each other.
I saw a post on Instagram by a really popular Indian meme page and the caption read something like,‘the world would become a better place if we all just love one another, love ultimately is the answer to every problem.’ And the owner of the page wasn’t a Christian, but he concluded with the above statement that all would become well if we all just chose to love one another. And I thought, ‘that’s literally what Jesus had been saying 2000 years back! He didn’t just say it but commanded us to love each other!’
What is love? God himself is love. And him sending his Son to us is love. ‘Love is patient, love does not envy…’ all those we have seen in the Bible of love,is what God is. He is patient,he is kind,he is not easily angered and he does not keep record of wrongs. Why is everyone searching for love or running after love? It is because we are created to be loved and to love. God is love, and when we think we are searching for love,it had always been God we are searching for because he himself is love. Am I worthy of love? Am I loved? Yes. Telling you this with a solid 10/10 confidence that God loves you and wants to welcome you to his family.
